Job Announcement - Rocky River United Methodist Church Children’s Choir Director
Rocky River United Methodist Church is seeking a highly qualified, energetic Children’s Choir Director.
RRUMC has a long-standing tradition of high-quality music, with a chancel choir two handbell choirs, a praise team and a children’s choir. The position is part time, approximately 4-10 hours per month plus 20 hours for the week of Vacation Bible School (June 19-23, 2023). Compensation is determined based on successful candidate’s qualifications, starting at $5,000/year.
Essential Job Functions
Plan engaging and exciting music for children’s choir, recruit children to sing in the choir, rehearse with children in two six-week increments during the school year, lead Children’s Worship the second Sunday of the month, including Palm Sunday, Christmas Eve and other dates planned with the Director of Music. Children’s Worship service is on the second Sunday of the month from August -June. They will work closely with Children’s Ministry Director for Vacation Bible School the last full week of June.
Administrative Requirements
Recruit children, be in close contact with families regarding rehearsal times and performances, plan and initiate a musical performance/production twice a year. There is a possibility of increasing the successful candidate’s role to include a drama program at the church.
Qualifications
Bachelors in Music degree preferred, excellent rapport with children, patience with young children, excellent communication skills essential.
Skills
Experience leading choirs, working with children, piano or guitar proficiency for rehearsals. Needs to be creative with engaging children despite COVID-19 restrictions should they come in to place.
Accountability
The successful candidate will be responsive to emails and communications with parents to keep children engaged in the music program at RRUMC. Must work closely with music director and Children’s Ministry Director to plan music calendar for the church, special events and programs.
Beliefs
The successful candidate will be a practicing Christian and have a strong ability to teach children about Christ through music.

Specific Dates Required:
Second Sunday of the month (August-June) 9:30am-12:30pm leading Children’s Worship
12:30-1:15pm on Sundays Nov. 6-Dec. 18 (not Thanksgiving weekend) + perform at 10:00 and 11:30 services on Dec. 18 - lead children’s choir rehearsals. This would be a six week commitment for the families/children.
Performance at 5:00pm on Dec. 24.
Feb. 26-April 2 Sunday rehearsals 12:30-1:15pm + performance at Palm Sunday services + continue usual duties on First Sunday of the month
VBS June 19-23
Additional 2-3 hours per month for planning; meeting with pastors, Music Director and Director of Children’s Ministries.
