Bishop Malone Speaks of Finding a Pathway Forward

Hello Friends and Family of RRUMC,

We invite you to Way Forward small-group discussion meetings in the Cafe on September 11 from 1:30pm-3pm or September 26 from 7pm-8:30pm.

In early June the East Ohio Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church gathered at Lakeside. That is the meeting of all of the clergy and elected lay people of our annual conference.

We get together to hear reports, rekindle old friendships, vote on pressing church matters and so much more.

As the United Methodist Church continues to wrestle with the outcome of the February vote on same sex marriage and the ordination of openly gay clergy, our Bishop, Bishop Tracy S. Malone, gave a tremendous Episcopal Address as a part of our meeting at Lakeside.

Her call was to continue to stay focused on our call as a United Methodist denomination to, “Make and mature disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.”

She talked about continuing to minister to those who still feel a tremendous amount of hurt and anger so that we can still be a church focusing on the mission together, united as a church people.

In her Episcopal Address Bishop Malone said, “Finding a pathway forward that can embrace both those who have a more traditional or conservative view and those who embrace the full inclusion of all of God’s children — that’s part of the missional work.”

I ask for your continued prayers for our Bishop, your pastors, our church and all those who have been affected by the February decision. Please continue to pray that as we move forward as RRUMC, we will always work tirelessly to help people meet Jesus Christ in the midst of their story. It is still all about the story.

God bless you.
