Though it is of the utmost importance to Jesus in His heart and mind as He completes His earthly ministry, the unity of Jesus’ followers has become increasingly problematic in modern church life. The church has fallen victim to the divisiveness the world has embraced and so many of us feel helpless to know how to respond. Jesus didn’t pray for unity because He felt the situation to be helpless, though. He believed His followers capable. If so, however, we must begin by honestly looking inward, rather than critically looking outward. Paul’s instructions to the Ephesians will guide us along the way.
