This year’s church wide Lenten study and sermon series will be “Entering the Passion of Jesus” by Amy-Jill Levine.
Jesus’ final days were full of risk. Every move he made was filled with anticipation, danger, and the potential for great loss or great reward. Jesus risked his reputation when he entered Jerusalem in a victory parade. He risked his life when he dared to teach in the Temple. His followers risked everything when they left behind their homes, or anointed him with costly perfume.
We take risks as we read and re-read these stories, finding new meanings and new challenges. In “Entering the Passion of Jesus: A Beginner’s Guide to Holy Week,” author, professor, and biblical scholar Amy-Jill Levine explores the biblical texts surrounding the Passion story. She shows us how the text raises ethical and spiritual questions for the reader, and how we all face risk in our Christian experience.
This 6 week DVD-based study will also provide the focus for the Lenten sermon series on Sunday mornings. You may sign up through the church website or via the Church Office (office@rrumc.org or 440.331.7676) for one of several small group study options.
Unless indicated otherwise, groups will operate solely on Zoom. Help is available for anyone who needs Zoom assistance.
You will also need the accompanying book for the study. It can be purchased at a cost of $9 from the church by making arrangements with the church office to stop by and purchase one, or you may choose to obtain a book by purchasing online. You are also welcome to purchase the book to follow along with the study individually, if that is your preference. Below is a list of group options:
