2022 Educational Benevolent Endowment Fund Scholarship Guidelines

PURPOSE: To encourage youth to take an active role in Christian involvement in the Rocky River United Methodist Church.

The amount of scholarship monies available each year will depend on the interest accumulated by the Educational Benevolent Endowment Fund for the year. The amounts will vary from year to year. This will be a determining factor in the number of scholarships and the amounts awarded each year.

GUIDELINES:

  1. The recipients will be chosen by the Scholarship Committee, appointed annually. This committee shall be composed of the following persons:

    1. Lay Leader

    2. Director of Youth Ministries

    3. Scholarship Chairperson of Trustees

    4. Two members at large appointed by Trustees

  2. Each candidate will complete an application form. The application will be kept confidential. The application includes:

    1. General, higher education and family information

    2. List of employment, community, school and other activities

    3. List and description of RRUMC or college church activities

    4. Short essay

    5. Two (2) letters of recommendation

    6. Transcript (unofficial transcript is acceptable)

  3. There shall be no restrictions as to classes toward any career which is consistent with Christian citizenship.

  4. The following are required qualifications:

    1. Applicant must be a high school senior planning to attend an accredited college, university, trade or professional school, or be currently enrolled in a higher educational institution.

    2. If a high school senior, the applicant must be an active member of Rocky River United Methodist Church. Examples of involvement in the church’s ministry are: worship service attendance, Bible Study/Sunday School, Youth Fellowship (including middle school and/or senior high), music ministries, service projects, District and Conference activities, Vacation Bible School, children’s ministries, church camp, or retreats. If currently enrolled in a higher educational institution, the applicant must have been an active member of Rocky River United Methodist Church recently and must be active in the ministry of another church while attending the higher educational institution.

    3. Academic achievement (minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA for high school seniors and 2.5 GPA for higher educational institution).

  5. The following qualifications may also be considered:

    1. Demonstrated leadership in church-related activities

    2. Community, school and other extracurricular activities

    3. Financial need

  6. Applicants should forward all requested materials (APPLICATION, ESSAY, TRANSCRIPTS, TWO LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION IN SEALED ENVELOPES) in one envelope to:

  7. Any applicant who does not submit all the requested materials will be deemed ineligible for a scholarship.

  8. The applications will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee in accordance with these guidelines.

  9. Recipients and the amounts of their respective scholarships must be approved by a vote of the Trustees. The Trustees’ decision will be final, and the scholarship recipients will be notified by mail.

  10. The scholarship funds will be presented by checks written to the recipients by July 1, 2021.

Applications will be available beginning on Sunday, April 3, 2022.

Application deadline is Sunday, May 1, 2022.
