Consecration Sunday - He Must Become Greater; I Must Become Less

25th Sunday after Pentecost and Concecration Sunday; “He Must Become Greater; I Must Become Less” Rev. Daniel F. Bogre is preaching.

SCRIPTURE: John 3:22-30

Consecration—a powerful word in the church, signifying the act of making something or someone holy and dedicated to God’s service through a religious ritual.

This Sunday, RRUMC will celebrate Consecration Sunday, a time to reflect on what it truly means to live a life that is holy and devoted to God.

What does it look like to live in holiness and dedication? Does it require becoming a monk, priest, nun, or minister? Certainly not. Rather, it calls us to live each day with intention, striving to be more dedicated to God than the day before. Consecration Sunday invites us to consider how even our financial giving for the year 2025 can be a part of this commitment—holy and devoted to God.

Through prayer and family discussions, reflect on what God is calling you to contribute to His ministries at RRUMC in 2025. May both you and your gifts be set apart for His purpose. That’s why I’ve chosen John 3:22-30, where John the Baptist concludes with, “He must become greater; I must become less.” This is John’s expression of a consecrated life. May we seek to know that life as well.
