First Fruits

24th Sunday after Pentecost and Communion Sunday; new members will be received. Pastor Paul A. Bennett sermon is entitled “First Fruits.”

SCRIPTURE: Deuteronomy 26:1-11

Perhaps you’ve heard the phrase “first fruits” before.

To provide it a bit of context, first fruits was a concept God introduced to the Israelites upon their arrival in the Promised Land.

The first portion of their harvest would become a sacrifice of thanksgiving and celebration to God for His constant provision and protection.

God has every right to ask to come first.

He has every right to ask for our best, even our everything. Not only is putting God first His just due, but it also represents the healthiest and most rewarding approach we, as His children, can take to the life He’s blessed us with.

How might we begin to exercise this concept of first fruits in our own lives, in this current season of stewardship and beyond?
