Under Pressure

Contrary to popular opinion, peer pressure doesn’t cease to exist when we reach adulthood. In many cases, it becomes even more threatening to our focus and personal integrity. The difference is we fall short of calling it what it is. One of the greatest challenges to our faith development is our constant concern with how our actions and words will be perceived by those around us. Our faith journeys would be so much easier if it was just us and God, right?! But it’s not. And, in fact, God called us to be strengthened by the presence of other believers in our lives, and inspired by the opportunity to witness to those who are not. Others around us should sharpen our focus, not obliterate it.

Where are we being pulled off course by peer pressure? How do we start to address this tremendous problem festering beneath the surface of many of our faith walks?
