What's in a Name? Ray of Light

One of my favorite things to see is when you see a ray of the sun’s light shine through on a very cloudy day.

It can look as if the sun is poking through the thick blanket of clouds to touch the earth and remind us of the fact that the sun did not stop shining. In today’s text we hear about the morning star and the root and offspring of David. The light, the root and offspring all came from a central source. They are the sun, the earth, and a mother. When we cling to, and find ourselves grounded in, a powerful source, we can reach out in love and grace to the world around us.

On this Sunday we celebrate VBS, and we launch our youth group out on their mission trip to Milwaukee. How will they remind us to be a ray of light stretching far out into the world around us?
