I would like to let the congregation know about a young family that is trying to escape the daily bombing in Kharkiv, Ukraine, and is in need of temporary housing in Cleveland.
They are childhood friends of my dear house guest Bob Malieiev, whose family stayed with me all last year. He can vouch for them personally as a loving, wonderful family. My experience was so extraordinary that I invite others to consider hosting this family in their time of peril.
I was an empty nester and a widow, and the family I hosted gave me more than I gave them. They helped me with everything from repairs to yard work to electronics. They gave me home cooked meals, hugs, and companionship, and brought laughter back into my house.
Hosting a family by using extra space in your house is one way to help. Or - maybe someone has an extra apartment they can donate until the family gets on its feet.
My own Ukrainian family will help them get adjusted by sharing their experience every step of the way. They already have a willing sponsor to take care of documentation. They will get benefits and work permits when they come.
This new family has 2 boys and a baby son, who are subjected to daily sounds of scary explosions and air raid sirens. The name of the family is “Dobromirov”, which is a very special name meaning “goodness and peace”. The parents need to leave Kharkiv now - but need a safe destination.
If anyone has questions about the experience, I am happy to answer everything. Thank you for considering sharing your space and your heart.
We can save the lives of this family!
Sincerely, Cathy Tasse
