Africa University Dorm Campaign

  • Rocky River United Methodist Church 19414 Detroit Road Rocky River, OH, 44116 United States (map)

On Sunday, December 5 there will be a special presentation and giving opportunity during our regular services to help build a new dorm for female students at Africa University.

The East Ohio Conference has been leading the TeachReachBless campaign to raise $1.5 million dollars to build, furnish, and maintain a much needed woman's dormitory on the Africa University campus in Zimbabwe.

Women make up more than half of the full-time student population and because of the lack of on-campus housing many have to walk as much as 10 miles in rural areas to attend classes. Female students walking to and from the University become targets for human trafficking and prostitution. The new dorm will allow 90 students to stay on campus and receive an education in a safe environment. Over $1.3 million has been raised toward the $1.5 million goal and it is hoped that remainder can be found by the end of the year so that construction can begin early next year.

On Sunday, December 5 there will be a special presentation and giving opportunity to help build this new dormitory. Dr. Maggie Jackson, EOC campaign co-chair, former director on the Africa University Board, and retired CSU professor, will present during services. She invites the congregation to join her for a cup of coffee, further discussion, and to view the 5 minute video (see below) between services.

Contributions to this campaign may be made by check, write "Africa Dorm" on the memo line, or on-line through the Donor Portal and pick the Africa University Dorm Fund. A generous donor will add one dollar to every three dollars contributed.
